To Make Every Piece of Writing Ironclad

Ibrahim Waheed “Kalaavehi”

This is written in jest, most certainly. However, there would invariably some who would insist on taking it rather seriously. I say to those: Perhaps there are a few lessons here as well, eh?

Whatever said and done, at the end of the day, somehow or the other (as the English language would have it in a certain neighboring country, (PDQBach, 1561)), you would garner much support amongst the educated, the educating, the academic, the academizing, and the pedantic if your writing passes through the finest sieves slung on the belts of such. This would be reinforced further if your writing is suitably ironclad in its soundness. For surely, it is a universally accepted truth (Abul-Ghabi, 1932) that these authoritative doyens would argue about the merits of kowtowing to the benchmarks given to them at whatever ivory-clad edifices of which they are the products of, with the highly commendable practice of denigrating all other systems.

So then, what exactly is ironcladding your writing? As so clearly explained by Merriam-Webster (Merriam-Webster, 2025), “ironclad” means “sheathed in iron armor”. Therefore, any piece of writing which aims to fly through the highest peaks of scriptorial excellence like the albatross which flashes its crystal-encrusted crown at you as it does so, must meet and greet the criteria (Baghlath, 1162) attendant to the same, with due flamboyance.

There are seven important criteria that most acceptable pieces of writing must invariably pass. These include ideas (things that happen in the brain), organization (an institution, by one definition), word choice, sentence fluency (voluntary stutterers must desist!), conventions (signed!), and a reasonable degree of coherency for the plebian to appreciate. Some of these qualities are outlined on online platforms as well (Wikipedia, 2025). To meet these criteria, every piece of writing that you write must be suitably researched. Every piece of writing that you produce must include copious references to what the giants in the subject area, on whose shoulders you must always ride while giving credit to and praising to them. Your writing must not include any original ideas or creative elements or expressions which have not been pre-expressed by the latter (Muh’taal, 1756).

The next quality which enriches and ironclads an academic or professional piece of writing (Pomposa, 1954) is to reinforce your writing with evidence of your skills, preferably in your subject matter or gray matter, preferably both. The most important exercise you must engage in this venture is to take time, write long, and ensure not to skip even the least relevant minutiae (Filibustiere, 1935). This is to give all possible opportunity to satisfy even the basest of desires in the shadiest of even the most anonymous lurker who might need to vent all his frustrations on you in his or her online comments about your article: this is your duty as an acceptably viral source of entertainment for even the saddest of the chronic pedestrian (Amrad-ul-Qalb, 2025).

Next comes the very activity of suitably ironcladding (providing armor for) your writing. This is very important (Heydrich, 1934). This part of your best writing, especially the part about making your writing believable by choice of otherwise, is best delegated to proclaimed professional writers or paid critics (Goebbels, 1935). Your writing is guaranteed to be successful if this were done (Eichmann, 1939). Your writing, then, would surely cleave through the murkiest of waters like a punt on the Cam (Kalhusaikudahuththanike, 2022). This has been proved in many other countries as well (Mahadenamutta, 1967).

May you write long and well.
